Submitted by Jon Rubinstein, once a prominent voice in the mobile community as he sought to reinvent Palm, has left HP. The move isn’t a surprise considering how many management shuffles HP has gone through as of late, and Rubinstein has all but disappeared from the webOS landscape in its recent transition to an open source platform.

Josh Rubinstein wanted to take a break for long time now. His original intention was to get WebOS into a saleable position and then move on.
After achieving that goal and selling to HP he then decided to stay on a bit longer at Todd Bradley’s behest, but only until after the first WebOS device ships.
What I’m trying to say is that it is suprising he stayed on so long and that his departure is not a sudden HP board reshuffling like some site says it is.
This man obviously did not need the money after the HP takeover. What had driven him was his sheer passion for WebOS and integrity to keep his word. Even when things did not work out as expected he decided to stay on longer to help steer WebOS new direction. Many other execs would have jumped ship long ago.

According to engadget, he had to stay at HP for 24 months. It was part of the deal when HP bought Palm.
