the surprising thing is that i bought a 2nd hand mac because i liked the look of osx (the features mostly) but i couldnt afford the osx upgrade for about two months after owning the mac. buy that time i grew to love the os9 interface and when i upgraded hated using the osx interface from day to day (still do... im back on winxp at work and osx at home)

I really liked it. It was surprisingly responsive, then I loded it into Ram, that was great. Needs more apps, go figure. I know it is installable to HD but couldn't find an instller once I was in it. Tried to play a CD but that did seem to work either. It could just be that I am very unfamilur with it though. Also, couldn't find docs on "how to use", lots on how to write software, thats good. Can't wait to see how this goes. Again, nice responsiveness. I didn't like how the menus were horizontal though, would prefer more "Mac Like" in that area. Geat job though, reall great!! My only problem with GNUStep was, I didn't feel they was doing there job to clone GNUstep with the Workspace and Window Manager. The applications are great clones great applications for any *step system. But the Workspace is just an application and Window Maker is just a desktop enviornment. They either need to make there own desktop enviornment that gives you the feel of OpenSTEP or make some background application that works the way it should have worked with logout, and whatever else is suppose to be on there from the OpenSTEP world. I dont like the feeling of I'm using WindowMaker then out of no where I run a GNUStep program and I feel like I'm using OpenSTEP then I close that program and I'm back to WindowMaker. Most run GNUstep on Linux, true, but there are some "weirdos" (I'm among those) that run it off Free/Open/NetBSD, Solaris and/or even Darwin. Are they any current distribuions based on this? The closeted I can seem to find is GNU-Darwin. But to say that it doesn't seem to be user/install friendy would be an understatment. There seems to be lots of different versions of "Devlopement Platforms" but no actuall complete OS, Linux based or otherwise. Is there one?

P.S. I did find something called "LinuxStep" that has been discontinued and seems to have been what I am looking for. The other is "Backbone" but is way, way far from being useful and doesn't seem to be aiming for a "complete" OS.
