One of the more whimsical case mods I’ve seen: A mini ITX-based PC carefully constructed inside a retail box for Windows XP. And at the end, the creator decides that he’d like to run Red Hat Linux on this machine too, so he tries to find a Linux box that fits over his new case. Unfortunately, Windows XP and Linux are not very compatible. The Red Hat Linux boxes he found were either a little smaller or a bit larger than his WinXP wonder.
Man some people have nothing to do! but what the heck, have fun kids! Does debian have retail boxes?
I’m just waiting for that! Talking about reduction in size…It can’t be too far off either. Nay-sayers beware.

I wonder about RF interference to other electronics in the surrounding area. The article didn’t address this.

old news.. seen it a long time ago as well (maybe even the same one)
In some ways it’s getting old, PC in a Tennis Shoe, PC in a Cookie Tin, PC bolted on the side of my head, etc.
But on the other hand, it’s fun how the mini-ITX boards do get crammed into the zaniest of places, and now with the nano-itx we’ll be seeing them in belt buckles, matchbooks and bottle caps as well.
It’s a fun side hobby and comes up with interesting projects.

Oh these happy people with legal copies of XP… anyway, anybody noticed how it’s so very politically correct to at least TRY to run RedHat, since if he only ran XP many people would come up and say ‘eww, XP!!’. Fun, what a fun.
Of course, I’m no big fan of windows, but there is no reason to hate someone because they are getting totally reamed by a software company. This is a great idea. And who cares if it’s old news, really, do you people have nothing better to do then constantly bitch? What pisses me off is when theres the tons of different reviews on the same product, all saying the same thing (lindows anyone?). We need more original ideas/articles on this site. Keep up the good work.
I would imagine there has to be SOME rfi ocurring with the thing, out to how far, well I’m sure he’ll find out the next time he tries to watch tv and he’s got his XP box running. Nothing a quick Faraday cage made out of metal screen stuck to the inside of the case couldn’t fix.
Does this remind anyone else of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer made a coffee table book, about coffee tables, that was itself a coffe table?

I’m pretty sure I saw this in my magazines a few months back and the way they did the RedHat box with the WinXP box was they just made some padding in the RedHat box and they even rewrote bits of the bootloader to use a switch in one of the ports that depended on which way up the box was and so they put it upside down for Linux and the right way up for Windows so when they put it in the Windows box it booted Windows and when they put it in the Linux box it booted Linux
