Opera today released Opera 6.0 for Linux Beta 1 with a wide range of speed-boosting functions and exclusive features only available to Linux users. Opera for the first time displays non-Roman alphabets for Linux users, opening up the local markets in the Asia/Pacific and Eastern European region to true browser competition. In a related note, the OffByOne original browser for Windows (only 400 KB) now supports SSL and the full spectrum of HTML 3.2.

Another small, light browser for Windows is ACT 10, available at http://jansfreeware.com/jfinternet.htm . Supports HTML 3.2 and CSS. Fully installed size is ~ 1.16 Mb, so it too fits on a floppy. An interesting novelty.
… but, is there any way to get the URL box to show up as a permanent part of the browser, or is it strictly accessible through the URL button?

I agree.
Gesture recognition though is, I think, a really cool feature and I find it utterly indispensable now. Every browser should have this, IMO.

The linux version doesn’t have mail, news, IM, etc.
Actually, you CAN remove those parts from the Windows version as well. There are some docs detailing it on their FAQ pages or knowledge base, but what you need to do is to just to deselect these items in the preferences section, and then remove one of the dll’s from your opera directory. Dont recall which, but check out Opera FAQ/KB.
It would help if one could actually download it from the sites they’ve listed. I tried several sites from Opera’s website and they all told me the file I requested was missing.
