Apple Today, 1st April 30 years ago, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple Computer, one of the most influential (whether you like it or not) and recognizable (oh yes) companies in the tech industry. Various websites have articles in celebration of this landmark, here, here, here, and here. Happy 30th birthday, Apple. Now, chop chop, get us that Intel iBook.

You are comparing to a $1000 white box PC. If you compare the cost to a SUN or HP-UX workstation, the 1999 doesn't seem so bad.

I'm comparing to a system I could build myself, or have someone build for me. Such a system would leave the $1,999 PowerMac in the dust.

Unfortunately Apple chose not to give me the option of building my own system using just what I need and want.
