I think there are some examples. Particularly for students.
Writing a paper that must be typed. Typewriter, or computer? I do think, particularly with huge papers, computers have sped things up.
If one knows what they're doing (I'll concede most don't) the internet has made research and fact checking tremendously easier.
I don't think the flaw is computers themselves, only their implementation. Most people simply don't know enough to get the most out of working with them. SO many people spend so much time figuring out how to change the font or switch to landscape that they could've just handwritten the stupid thing in the first place
Moral of the story is: people should make it a point to know what's going on. They never will. Therefore, we either shut a huge population out (companies will never do this), or try to make things simultaneously easy, featureful, and powerful.

The more people we have using computers the more information they can gather and use to get things done more efficiently and then they can move on to spend time on more important things like family...
I'm not sure that anyone has ever in the history of computers been able to go home early because they finished their work quicker.
On the contrary, computers make you easily accessible and therefore decrease your free time.
