When I used BeOS as my main OS about a year ago, Firefox ran quiet well on it, even though my system was just 600mhz.

The BeOS firefix port has a lot of performance hacks done to it if I remember correctly... Like making it more multithreaded, At least as far as the GUI is concerned.
The BeOS port was the most responsive port of firefox I have used to date
