GNU, GPL, Open Source "The FSF today launched a campaign with a twofold mission of exposing the harms inflicted on computer users by the new Microsoft Windows Vista and promoting free software alternatives that respect users' security and privacy rights. "Vista is an upsell masquerading as an upgrade. It is an overall regression when you look at the most important aspect of owning and using a computer: your control over what it does. Obviously MS Windows is already proprietary and very restrictive, and well worth rejecting. But the new 'features' in Vista are a Trojan Horse to smuggle in even more restrictions. We'll be focusing attention on detailing how they work, how to resist them, and why people should care", said FSF program administrator John Sullivan."

The silence of anyone from MS on the "Linux violates MS IP" subject since the first time Ballmer mentioned it post-Novell, the fact that MS people reportedly keep avoiding questions related to the subject, suggest that perhaps someone at MS does realise how damaging it is.

Silence?????

Silence?????

Didn't I post the quote from one of the FOSS holy trinity (Bruce Perens) admitting that all software violates other companies IP several times?

Why do you think Microsft signs cross-licensing agreements? They've been sued a lot. They are a target for IP firms.

How many times has Microsoft sued FOSS companies?

Zero.

Does it matter to the FOSS cult if Bruce Perens and Microsoft are right about Linux violating Microsoft (and others) IP????

Of course not. You cannot admit the DEVIL is right. It would destory the central tenet of the FOSS cult: Microsoft is EVIL!

(Thats why it annoys so many when I bring up IBM and its role in the FOSS religion. IBM is just as proprietary as Microsoft, but admitting that would also destory the centra tenet).

BP isn't a Microsoft person. You also notparkerly left out the part where he (BP) pointed out that the patent system is so ridiculous that everyone in the software industry violates everyone else's patents, pretty much. As did the study which Ballmer quoted.

Why do you think Microsft signs cross-licensing agreements? They've been sued a lot. They are a target for IP firms.

Those orgs in the linux space which own patents have repeatedly stated they won't sue others for patent violations except for defensive purposes, i.e. if someone else strikes first.

How many times has Microsoft sued FOSS companies?

Zero.

MS has also never sued anyone for, or raised the price of Windows in retaliation against, installing an OS alongside or instead of Windows. Nevertheless, they claimed they would for quite a while. They may even still be doing it. Both facts are a matter of record from MS people. (Ballmer himself, I believe.)

MS are a dirty, shit-stirring company, and you, sir, are no better.
