I didn't see any mention in Herd 1 or 2 about integrated "bling manager" or anything about Compiz/Beryl... is Fiesty not going to include any of the 3D desktop stuff out of the gates?

I'm currently running Beryl on my Kubuntu box and half of the time, Beryl fail to start. I know this has something to do with the last update I did for Beryl, but still, this can't be tolerated for a production system. I'm too lazy to fix it and as this is only bling bling my system is still usable. Also as ATI drivers still don't propose the needed GL_Extension, the use of XGL or AIGLX is stil needed. This is not a sexy option.

Still, all I can do is hope this will soon happen, so Linux will be as sexy as Vista.

Thanks for the reply werfu... this was my experience as well. Can't tell if Compiz/Beryl will every collaborate of if we can thank the community for two more competing (forking) technologies to fight over as we move forward.

I do like the fact that if it's unstable, it's not going into the mainstream distrobution. That would do a lot more harm than good.

Beryl works seamlessly for me on Edgy with no configuration necessary other than installing from repo. Of course I have Intel video drivers (on a laptop), which apparently play much more nicely with XGL than ATI.
