you portrayed it as if either:

1: linux itself defaults to bash
2: ALL linux dists defaults to bash

neither of which is true.

about your bash remarks, it works very well for scripts, for example it actually is faster than zsh for some things, bash seems to do the job fairly good for these distributions.
