Talk, Rumors, X Versus Y George Ou compares Microsoft Office 2007 to OpenOffice 2.2 in memory and CPU usage using the OOXML and ODF file formats. The conclusion according to Ou: "We can see that the OpenOffice.org ODF XML parser (while vastly improved) is still about 5 times slower than Microsoft's OOXML parser. OpenOffice.org also seems to consume nearly 4 times the amount of RAM to hold the same data. While OpenOffice.org continues to have fewer features than Microsoft Office, it continues to consume far more resources than Microsoft."

Seems to me that "projecting an air of objectivity" while bashing a particular company could be just a slightly more subtle form of shilling. Rather than praise a particular company, you just bash its competitor instead.

Don't confuse advocacy with shilling.

Anyway, my point wasn't that you are shilling. I seriously doubt anyone is getting paid by anyone to propagandize here.

Maybe, maybe not. It's impossible to tell. If I was MS, I would seriously consider it, though I have to say that sites like Slashdot or Digg would probably offer a best return on my investment.

My point was that many here could be argued to be and accused to be "shilling", even the most constant accusers.

Do you really think Open-source companies have enough money to spend on this type of guerilla marketing? I don't.

Anyway, I don't accuse people of being shills...I may sometimes evoke my suspicions that they are, but like a game of Clue you don't accuse until you have proof. I have none, so I'll keep limiting myself to being suspicious.
