Why? If it can be done and someone wants to do it, then it should be done. Why not? Zealous defenders of the status quo object. Who cares? Apparently a lot of people who apparently desire to deny their fellow GNOME users a choice. Choice is good. Choices for UI options are good. If GNOME ever denies me the option of having my menu bars attached to the windows with which they are associated, well, there are a lot of other quite usable DEs out there. Until that time, I'm just going to sit back and watch the flamewar.
