While there are pros and cons to the standard *nix file hierarchy, for many developers and users, the cons outweigh the pros. If you are used to the way the *nix file hierarchy works, you might feel quite comfortable about it and see no reason to change it. But for some developers, system administrators and end users (although GoboLinux is not targeted at Linux novices), the file haierarchy could use some simplification, a la MacOS X, hence GoboLinux.
For the recird, I have not actually tried GoboLinux...
