Obviously, I totally agree with you. We've been saying the same thing for years now. You can have a dedicated, GPL licensed desktop OS without forking the Linux kernel. I absolutely see no reason why Syllable running on desktop machines and Linux running the servers those desktops rely upon is not a workable, sensible model.

why not focus on other projects for the desktop, such as Syllable instead of forking?
