Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area, and you multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet, you are a plague, and we are the cure.

Its funny that with the imminent disaster of greenhouse warming and the contra sun dimming problem masking that that we are even talking about replacing the human race with AI minds. If humanity survives another hundred years with the earth in the same shape as today, that would be truly far more amazing than seeing AI start to become human like (I don't mean Kismet like).
Also I can't quite equate cochlear or other electronic implants with AI, its mostly DSP cleaning up signals.
The Stanford story about Stanley was from my point of view another mostly DSP story, crunching camera images down to find a path with ever better hardware available.
