Note the large corpus of Sci-Fi and speculative literature that's set in the far-flung future where AI and SI are present: a lot of it continues, rightly, to focus on the fact that humans still haven't got the major social issues right. I am all for scientific research but let's get the overly-territorial ape in us sorted out properly before we seek to enhance its brain, or make its still remarkable intelligence apparently superfluous.
