I agree with you. We are seeing that the CPU speed/performance isn't increasing as before, and memory access is one of the BIG bottleneck. As I see the only way to increase performance in the future is:
1. Offloading the CPU(s)/main memory with more smart devices/specialized processors that offload the (main) CPU/Memory of routine work.
2. More efficient OS'es, that is from ground up build for multiple CPU(s)/multithreading...
