Konqueror is an infinitely better file manager.... Sometimes I sort of with gnome would give up on this silly file manager notion (but that's cause I stopped using file managers after starting to use Gnome)...
What irritates me most is the new file selector though (from 2.6). Please oh please see in your finite wisdom (sic) to give me a way to TYPE INTO THE BLOODY THING! Gtk went from the best file selector to the worst inside one release...
You can press ctrl-l in the file selector to type.
well, personally I can't stand konqueror and all its icons, bar, menus an widgets all over the window, and I hated the old gtk+ file-selector while I consider very satisfying the "new" one... 1-1
please, remember that you're personal opinions are not an universal measure of things

I only see the menu at the top of the window as well as the iconbar having well arranged items on it that you can disable in case you dislike them. What's wrong with that ?

Yours is ?

It exists. You just have to try it.
Type the name of the file to jump to the file. Keep typing to select the exact file.
Or press / to type the full path into the location dialog, seeing a drop down list of possible completions along the way.
I don't see how the sequence of key presses is much different to typing into a terminal, or the old file manager.
By the way, Nautilus has great keyboard navigation too.
