Qt Breaking from the KDE 4.0 release event right now is word that Trolltech will be releasing Qt under the GPLv3 license. An official announcement will be made by Trolltech regarding this GPLv2 to GPLv3 license update on Monday, January 21, 2008. Additionally, KDE 4.1 is now planned for a July 2008 release.

"GPLv2 to GPLv3 license update" is a somewhat misleading wording. The GPL v3 license option will be available in addition to GPL v2, not replace it.


That's an important point. Qt already has many exceptions to allow Qt's usage with other software of different licenses.
