Well, even if it doesn't have the ability to install the meta packages, it should at least be smart enough to tell the user, "Hey, you just plugged something in.. I don't know what this device is, but you should go to www.whatever to see if we have any packages/drivers available for this device." Obviously, I have no idea how these things work so I'm generalizing, but you get the idea
Just give the user some sort of idea about what they need to do or where to go in order to get more information. Because, as I said before, these devices don't come with CD-ROMs or quick start manuals for Linux, so people need all the help they can get.
