Several open source applications are available on both Linux as well as Windows. This gave Mohammed Saleh the idea of comparing the performance of various of these applications on both Ubuntu 8.04 as well as Windows XP SP3, to see which of the two performed better with certain applications. The results were rather interesting.

You don't get the gist of the compromises being made here. Windows multi-tasks and does some renicing in favour of the active application currently running, automatically. The problem with this is that the foreground running program, especially one as intensive as Blender, tends to drag down the rest of the system as a result. As soon as you multi-task to something else, poof, everything runs slower. Will that help you get your work done faster? Thankfully, this doesn't happen on any Linux system I've yet used.
However, in this case I doubt whether a renice would help Blender. There are a few other performance bottlenecks to look at first before doing that.
