64bit is important for kernels and apps that need to address an insane amount of ram, and thats about it.
I understand what you are saying, and agree to a point. However, as long as threads like this one are relevant, we do have a problem that needs to be solved. The 32 bit/64 bit thing involves overhead in the form of development time, testing time, user confusion, 32 *and* 64 bit libraries being loaded into memory, etc. etc. etc. Unless you think that 64 bit in user space is going to go away, we really need to move forward to a unified architecture for x86 if only for simplicity's sake, regardless of whether a 64 bit browser has measurable advantages over a 32 bit one.
I believe it was William of Ockham who said that one should not multiply architectures unnecessarily. And if he didn't he should have.
