Could still be useless though.
True, but that can be said of all pre-alpha software. The fact is that the old X.Org code-base is old and has a ton of cruft. One way or another, the free software community needs to consider replacing it - if Wayland merely gets people to start thinking about doing so, I say Job Well Done.
