Internet & Networking Following the EU investigation into Internet Explorer's inclusion in Windows, Microsoft made it possible to "turn off" Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7, by removing the executable and every mention of the browser from the system. According to Opera and Google, this is nice, but not enough.

//Typically Windows requires a road trip. //

You admin windows boxes but you're clueless about RDP and roaming profiles. Um, ok. Stay with linux, and remind me to never hire you for anything IT related.

That's what I was thinking. A guy who hates Windows and apparently knows nothing about RDP, VNC, or any of the free or paid hosted remote solutions (LogMeIn, Citrix/GotoMyPC/WebEx), or something like a Bomgar appliance, shouldn't be let anywhere near a Windows PC or server.

We use the Bomgar, which allows for remote support with NAT transversal on Windows (32/64), Linux (32/64), and OS X. No roadtrips needed, unless the system is completely dead, or network connectivity is a problem, in which case it doesn't matter what OS you're running.

Mostly agree, but for one thing. With *NIX (including OS X if configured properly), if the GUI is the problem, at least you can still get in via ssh to fix it as long as network connectivity is up. Fat load of good RDP does you if the Windows GUI isn't loading and you get dropped into the recovery console. I agree with your other points though, one should know about RDP and other remote solutions if they're administering Windows boxes, just as I'd expect those administering *NIX to know about ssh for example.
