15GB for OS files still seems excessive to me though.
Excessive is an understatement. It's ludicrous!! That's just for the OS, now you still need to install your actual applications: Anti-virus, office suite, general tools, development software, games etc...
Ubuntu Linux installs the OS with loads of applications which include OpenOffice and it's still only 4GB of hard drive space.
Where are the days of OS's like Win95 only taking up 50MB hard drive space.

The article said it requires a 40GB HDD but 15GB disk space (so presumably Vista refuses to install on a partition smaller than 40GB even though it doesn't require that much space for OS files).
15GB for OS files still seems excessive to me though.
