So Apple launch slowness is a toll we pay for not having Windows Rot? I think I could accept that. (There is OSX rot too, but not that painful).
Yes it is and yes, pre-binding can get corrupted too, but any user can perform maintenance on it and it does not degrade performance over time. Some people might say: it is always slow, but speed is consistent so the user adapts to it. And of course, you always have the possibility to buy faster hardware.
The problem with Windows is: after a clean install is very fast, over time gets slower to terribly slow. The registry is difficult to repair.
The register is a nice idea, and when it works it does work. But computers are not always meant to be used by specialists, so design decisions have to be made, Apple approach is slower but more user friendly.
And yes, Windows has better registry these days, but also Mac OS X pre-binding is better.
