We all know them. We all hate them. They are generally overdone, completely biased, or so vague they border on the edge of pointlessness (or toppled over said edge). Yes, I'm talking about those "Is Linux ready for the desktop" articles. Still, this one is different.

I'm glad the guy had the guts to not only mention the horrible slowness, but dedicate several points to it. Yes, backward compatibility is a problem, package management and other things are problematic, that's all true, but for me, the only real, annoying problem is the hopeless GUI slowness. The massive overhead of all the inefficient GUI layers. It's only getting worse and worse every year. The performance is vastly inferior to the commercial offerings. This is an area where Microsoft shines in an unparalelled way.
