Oh yes! thanks for the info but I know Color is american is colour is british..I just quoted it as an example to enquire whether distrobution and distribution are also somewhat similar to the colour/color case.
Distrobution does seem like a typo but I have seen it a few times before too and so I thought i would enquire...

No, distrobution is an error I believe.
Color and colour are both not correct. Color is American English, Colour is British (and by extension, Australian, Canadian etc.) English. Colour is an error in the States, just like color is an error up here in Canada.
For instance, typing colour in OOo using the American dictionary results in spell check picking it up.
