Talk, Rumors, X Versus Y During the Gran Canaria Desktop Summit, Richard M. Stallman of the Free Software Foundation (and the Superfluous Introduction Award goes to...) gave a keynote speech. Said keynote speech raised a few eyebrows in the Free software community because of a number of questionable remarks regarding women in technology. David "Lefty" Schlesinger, member of the GNOME Advisory Board and active in the mobile open source community, took issue with RMS' remarks and decided to call him out on it. The response he got was... Less than satisfying.

I'll take a person who will bring up things that *Rock My Boat* and provoke debate anytime over a person who will forfeit mentioning obvious tendencies in a joke for the sake of appearing "appropriate"

You say it as if it's impossible to do both.

Of course it's not: you can certainly make jokes both clean and proper, and they can still Rock Your Boat.

They just won't be rocking mine.

Reminds me of the F-word, which I can't say, just as I can't say another couple of thousand. Just as I can't compare any of another few thousand. Just as I can't dress any of a few thousand ways in a few thousand contexts. Just as I can't talk politics, religion or sex at a dinner party, despite all guests having political views, views on religion, and hopefully sex (though not at the party).

There are so many things I can't do, thankfully.

Imagine if I had to make up my mind on my own, without the support of the moral institutions like church, state, company, and - most importantly - the People.

Imagine a world where I might actually risk offending someone every time I opened my mouth. What a nightmare. What a waste of perfectly good quality time.

Effen underground-place-of-fire! My mouse just died! Now what do I do?!

What do you mean "use the keyboard"??!!!

I'm a Modern Man, you offspring-of-a-certain-female-canine.

They just won't be rocking mine.

You're incapable of engaging in intellectually debate with or be amused and entertained by someone who doesn't also use crude and simplistic jokes aimed at denigrating a certain group of people?

Reminds me of the F-word, which I can't say

Why? Some sort of speech impediment?

I use the so called F-word all the time, and completely fail to see what the problem is. It's no different than any other word in that it has to be used in the right context.

Just as I can't talk politics, religion or sex at a dinner party,

What's stopping you?

Imagine a world where I might actually risk offending someone every time I opened my mouth.

You already live in such a world. Learn to deal with it.
