Oh, really that simple? Really no much innovation? Then why not Palm simply put itself as a USB disk and let user access it through Finder or Explorer. That's simple. Why bother to adhere to Apple's non-innovation iTune? Poor Palm, they could not even catch up with a non-innovation.
You are free to use any other music sync-app shipped with your equipment. You are free to choose other music store to buy music. So music is the same to you. Why you bother to stick with Apple's "monopoly"?
Are you unhappy that a company has a milkcow? The motivation of having a milkcow is the whole point of competition. If no one is allowed to have a milkcow, then who is bother to innovation and compete with each other? That non-monopoly status is really a dead water status.

Music delivery is JUST music delivery, nothing really fancy about that ! Tell me WHERE there is so-called "innovation" beside a simple SHOUTcast service ? If Palm can trick and access iTunes to provide users to the raw music, that means there is no golden secret about music service, so what's the matter ? The only "innovation" I see is how Apple cut the access to the music to third parties when they finds out, this can be also called 'censorship' ! Are you really sure to call THIS "innovation" ? iTunes is the Apple's milkcow, and they just do not want somebody else to get access to it if not through the use of their own hardware. This can be also called 'monopoly' ! Are you really sure to call THIS "innovation" ?
Music delivery is to me, as a programmer, as simple as defining a standart shaped electrig plug or fuel nozzle. And tricking these shapes just to cut off the services (like RTMP vs RTMPE, Google for rtmpdump) is just a matter of maliciousness ! Easy as pie...
