Talk, Rumors, X Versus Y Apart from Linux and the various BSD operating systems, there's another open source UNIX-like operating system (actually, it's a certified UNIX): OpenSolaris. There are a few key differences between Linux and OpenSolaris, and TuxRadar lists some of them so that Linux users can dive right into Solaris.

Once you drop your Linuxisms, though, you come to realise that the Unix way is the better way. You only need 1 partition per OS, instead of 1 partition per filesystem.

Linux has had LVM for 11 years now.

WTF does LVM has to do with this?

Ummm... everything? Is this a trick question?

With traditional Unix partitioning, you create one partition and then divide it up into different filesystems. With LVM, you create one partition and then divide it up into different filesystems.

Oh lord.

Don't know, ability to dynamically create any number of sub partitions within a single partition.

... Bad hair day?
