The problem that I have with the article is that it equates a stable ABI to having better driver support. It just doesn't.
It stands to reason that over time, and all other things being equal, it would be a positive factor. Of course, all things are not equal, and Linux has the jump on late-comer OpenSolaris for drivers. We've all heard the kernel devs' rationale for not having a stable internal abi. OpenSolaris, if we watch it carefully, eschewing personal bias as much as possible on the topic, has the potential to indicate something about how much that lack of a stable internal abi is costing us.
We should pay attention to this experiment.

Personally I think about the stable ABI interface most of the times I update opensolaris, and *every* time I update my linux boxes (due to the Nvidia drivers)
Correction: I think this also has to do with the binary blob clause ... which Solaris doesn't have, and I appreciate.
