Hardware, Embedded Systems The future of integrated graphics processors lies somewhere on the dies of future processors, that much is a certainty. However, this creates a big problem for NVIDIA, whose chipset business will be out, of well, business. Beating everybody to the punch, the company announced yesterday that it is ceasing all development on future chipsets, citing unfair business practices from Intel.

It was hardware that's kept me from going to Open or FreeBSD. A fully open driver for hardware would be the ideal I think also. In absence of an open driver, one has to go with the driver that works. Unfortunately, being selective about hardware purchases with less mainstream platforms is still a requirement. Get your list of wanted hardware then compare it with your lists of supported hardware. This process sucks but remains as long as the hardware vendors continue to treat non-Windows users like lepers.
