The first point release of the stable 2.12.x series of Gnome has been
released. This release includes the latest bugfixes and other
improvements such as updated translations.

Simple, they want their desktop of choice to appear more mature and well supported than it is in reality. And if that means making claims on other peoples work, so be it in their mind. I have to admit I find this practice both dishonest and insolent.
