Agreed about Vala.
C cannot continue to be the answer for the next generation of apps. Writing GObject code in C is a humungous kludge. Vala makes it pretty and elegant again, while using a very Java/C#-similar syntax and adding all kinds of niceties from the C# world like properties. It's just freaking awesome. If Gnome were to start over in Vala, I think the existing developers would not only be much more productive themselves, but they would get a lot more support from third-party contributors as well.
GO VALA!!!
