"GPL is about licencing, that is what the L stands for. I was using books and cds as an example of a purchase with additional restrictions. If I buy bread, I can photocopy it. If I buy a book, I can't photocopy it. You have different rights depending on what you buy.
AFAIK: If you buy a book, you can indeed photocopy it. You just aren't allowed to re-distribute (i.e. sell) the photocopy. You are allowed to re-sell the original, as long as you do not keep a photocopy (which is to say that if you sell the book then you can no longer have it). " I think you're intentionally misrepresenting his point. You can sell photocopies of bread. Bread does not equal a book.
