It's not anything that prevents them, it's just that Canonical decided to focus on one thing: the desktop. Blaming them for this is like blaming Samsung for taking Android and putting a skin on top of it.
Exactly, they do Y, not X, where X is collaborating. Canonical can collaborate, just like other companies, they just chose not to.
Let's repeat what you are saying; Canonical has no intention of collaborating.
Anyone that doesn't collaborate can't be considered part of the team. Linux, GNOME, KDE, X.org, Fedora, Archlinux, they all collaborate, they are part of the team. Canonical doesn't, therefore they are not part of the team.
