Internet & Networking Now this is a subject sure to cause some discussion among all of you. LifeHacker's Adam Pash is arguing that Chrome has overtaken Firefox as the browser of choice for what he calls 'power users'; polls among LifeHacker's readership indeed seem to confirm just that. He also gives a number of reasons as to why this is the case.

You see, about Kraken, it is not actually tweaked to favour Firefox, it is specifically made to include the kind of scripts that would typically be run by browsers.

Claims Mozilla. And it just "happens" to be tweaked specifically for Firefox 4. Fail.

Show me a website where the Mozilla developers publish results from running Kraken, and conclude that Firefox is faster.

Huh? They officially announced it, and bragged about how amazingly "real" it is compared to everything else.

The arewefastyet.com website of the Mozilla developers explicitly runs Apple's sunspider benchmark, and Google's v8bench benchmark. They explicitly state that Firefox javascript development version is not yet as fast as Safari's or Chrome's latest devlopment javascript engines.

But then their marketing figured that, hey, we can make our own, and be faster even though we aren't! Firefox is still slower at Sunspider, rememember. So when they realized they were too slow, they simply made their own where Firefox is fast.

Dishonesty.

Indeed, making a benchmark that shows that your web browser is the fastest even when it's not is dishonest. Apple (Sunspider), Google (V8 bench), Mozilla (Kraken), and Microsoft should all be ashamed.

However, what lemur2 has beed trying to tell you in the last few comments is that some manufacturers are less dishonest than others.

Google is, first, because they explicitly called their benchmark "V8bench". So you know what it's about. Internal regression testing and external marketting.

And mozilla is even less dishonest in that they test their browser using other manufacturer's test suites, where their browser is obviously not at its advantage.

That's the point.

Thanks for trying, but obviously the other person in this conversation just hasn't got a clue about this.

Demonstration:
lemur2: "Show me a website where the Mozilla developers publish results from running Kraken, and conclude that Firefox is faster."

PresentIt: "Huh? They officially announced it, and bragged about how amazingly "real" it is compared to everything else."

So I was going to say: "So where is the website link then? If Mozilla were indeed bragging about this, you should be able to supply the link where Mozilla published results from running Kraken for Firefox and for other browsers, and concluded that "see ... Firefox is better" as you claim they did. If Mozilla did that, just point out where.

Put up or shut up.

After all, I can and do supply a link where Mozilla publishes results from running sunspider and v8bench, for Firefox and for other browsers, and conclude "well, we are getting closer, but we haven't quite matched them as yet".

But what is the point? One can only bash someone so many times with a huge cluestick, and if they haven't got it yet, they simply aren't ever going to. If PresentIt has a mindset that the one party who is demonstrably operating in the user's interests and is being honest, is actually evil and dishonest, and PresentIt has no working logic or comprehension and will hear no argument, then we could be here forever to no end.

Let PresentIt use another browser against his/her own best interest, and let everyone else with half a brain or better use Firefox 4, and we can all be happy and live in peace forever after. Or something like that. Maybe.
