I know that there's a number of readers who don't like it when OSnews covers political topics, I'm one of them. These political upheavals however spell danger for operating system hobbyists and so I dedicate this article to framing the political news within the context of what we are here to read about: operating systems.

I have to say that your blog is stunning, and I have tried, and failed, to bring your excellent posts to OSnews but I lacked the knowledge and the right news-writing skills to write anything meaningful for pg.1 stuff. Please consider either publishing on OSnews, or submitting brief synopses that we could publish to get your fine articles some more attention and discussion.

Anyway, you raise a question that I asked myself some times, and here's the answers I came up with so far : Publishing on OSnews
First, please note that I couldn't publish all the news which currently go through my blog on OSnews instead for a number of reasons, most noticeably because I need some small media under my control for official announcements and because of the fact that most of my blog posts are made of exactly the stuff I'd hate to see on OSnews : small progresses on some obscure hobby OS.
About publishing some originals about OS theory and my OS' design on OSnews, I have done that once in the past and it certainly was a good experience overall. However, I have a problem with the number of hours in an average week it takes to do that right now.
* At the end of an average workday, I'm generally unable to do anything which requires a lot of concentration.
* This only leaves me my week-ends. Experience shows that I can only do two big things properly in an average week-end.
At the time I wrote my article on touchscreens and cloud computing, I had not yet started writing code, so I had a lot of spare time. Now, my week-ends tend to be split between writing code and writing blog posts (I would like to reach a permanent 1 post/week publishing rate).
I'm sure that you'll understand that when I have a big and juicy article at hand, I tend to favor my few blog readers first. The poor guys already get the "progress in random part x of the OS" posts the other weeks, it would be unfair to leave them with only the gory implementation details and keep the nice theoretical stuff for OSnews ^^

Then, what part of my content do you think I should publish on OSnews ?
* Computer history and case studies
Being the first posts I've ever written, they are so full of personal opinion that I think publishing them would be the best way to get a flame war in the comments. Moreover, they get a bit lacking and incomplete near the end, as I started to get tired of this. Some images I've put are now gone. In short, I think that a rewrite would be required before publishing.

* Scope statement
Well, I've rewritten this part recently when I put it on the project's Trac as part of opening the source and writing doc. Is it really worth publishing on OSnews apart for an introductory "hello, I'm there !" article, though ? For writing such an article, my thought is that I should better wait until I've really got some impressive implemented stuff to show, but if you think otherwise please feel free to discuss that !

The Tizen Greek Community has some screenshots of a very recent build of Tizen running on a Samsung GT-i8800. It looks wholly unremarkable.

Joint statement to The Next Web from Microsoft and Google: "Microsoft and YouTube are working together to update the new YouTube for Windows Phone app to enable compliance with YouTube's API terms of service, including enabling ads, in the coming weeks. Microsoft will replace the existing YouTube app in Windows Phone Store with the previous version during this time." Good to know these children stopped acting like little pricks. Can we have full Google support in Windows 8 now, please?

Yahoo is acquiring Tumblr, the microblogging and social networking website, for $1.1 billion USD. Tumblr offers little revenue but lots of eyeballs if Yahoo can monetarize them. Now Yahoo is bidding for Hulu, the streaming video service. After years of ineffective responses while Google, Facebook, and others took large chunks of the online advertising market, Yahoo is fighting back. Can Yahoo reignite the momentum it had at the turn of the century? What do you think?

In several places around the web, the company is replacing the existing 'Talk' platform with a new one called 'Hangouts' that sharply diminishes support for the open messaging protocol known as XMPP (or sometimes informally Jabber), and also removes the option to disable the archiving of all chat communications. These changes represent a switch from open protocols to proprietary ones, and a clear step backward for many users." That's why I always say: only suckers trust companies.

According to an anonymous HTC executive cited by WSJ, the crucial HTC One is selling 'pretty good so far'. The executive revealed that HTC sold about five million One units since launch, a performance that is deemed encouraging. However, sales have been limited by the persisting supply issues that still plague the production of the HTC One." Finally some good news for HTC. Five million units amidst supply constraints is very impressive.

"Sony gave the PS4 50% more raw shader performance, plain and simple (768 SPs @ 800MHz vs. 1152 SPs & 800MHz). Unlike last generation, you don't need to be some sort of Jedi to extract the PS4's potential here. The Xbox One and PS4 architectures are quite similar, Sony just has more hardware under the hood. Weâll have to wait and see how this hardware delta gets exposed in games over time, but the gap is definitely there. The funny thing about game consoles is that itâs usually the lowest common denominator that determines the bulk of the experience across all platforms. On the plus side, the Xbox One should enjoy better power/thermal characteristics compared to the PlayStation 4.
