Xfce When we reported on the release of Xfce 4.8, we ignored a statement inside the release announcement about the lack of new features coming to the BSD world. The statement was a bit disconnected from the rest of the press release, but Xfce developer Jannis Pohlmann has published a blog post giving a few more details about the issue.

Architecture of any API isn't whatever specific until You define being specific as being developed for a particular platform with that platform in mind.

That said, udev is definitely linux-specific, as is udisk and as HAL used to be (regardless of the fact it was ported to FreeBSD as WinAPI was ported to linux with WINE project).

ConsoleKit isn't that platform specific and therefor is ported to BSDs (eg. see http://openports.se/sysutils/consolekit).
