A lot of people are wondering why Nokia didn't choose to go with Android. How can Nokia differentiate themselves when Android is a lot more open and free than Windows Phone 7? As usual, the key to this is in the details. If you read the announcements carefully, you'll see that Microsoft offered Nokia something Google most likely didn't. Update: What a surprise. Elop just confirmed Nokia has a special deal with Microsoft. Whereas HTC, Samsung, and so on are not allowed to customise WP7 - Nokia is, further confirming my theory.

Well, Trolltech had some engineers working on it and paid them with money obtained from commercial licenses.
Nokia bought QT from Trolltech and dumped previous work on a GTK solution in the hope to use QT as a leverage to make their phones more appealing.
Canonical started to switch horses (QT in addition to or totally replacing GTK...).
Now Nokia has no use for QT anymore and canonical sits on a new horse and the future of it is uncertain.
If canonical buys QT they can direct the future of their new horse...
Just my $0.02... anyone is entitled to disagree.

People forget that Trolltech was a healthy, self sustaining business that Nokia paid a handsome amount for.
If they really aren't interested in investing in it any more and have not promised MS to kill it, they might as well let it go again.
That will not reach the level of aspiration everybody got after QT-Meego announcements, but will surely be enough to fund further development of the library (esp. now that nokia helped to modernize it big time) and the keep the KDE ecosystem alive.
Ultimately, it's GPL. It's too good piece of code to be left in dark by the community.

The Tizen Greek Community has some screenshots of a very recent build of Tizen running on a Samsung GT-i8800. It looks wholly unremarkable.

Joint statement to The Next Web from Microsoft and Google: "Microsoft and YouTube are working together to update the new YouTube for Windows Phone app to enable compliance with YouTube's API terms of service, including enabling ads, in the coming weeks. Microsoft will replace the existing YouTube app in Windows Phone Store with the previous version during this time." Good to know these children stopped acting like little pricks. Can we have full Google support in Windows 8 now, please?

Yahoo is acquiring Tumblr, the microblogging and social networking website, for $1.1 billion USD. Tumblr offers little revenue but lots of eyeballs if Yahoo can monetarize them. Now Yahoo is bidding for Hulu, the streaming video service. After years of ineffective responses while Google, Facebook, and others took large chunks of the online advertising market, Yahoo is fighting back. Can Yahoo reignite the momentum it had at the turn of the century? What do you think?

In several places around the web, the company is replacing the existing 'Talk' platform with a new one called 'Hangouts' that sharply diminishes support for the open messaging protocol known as XMPP (or sometimes informally Jabber), and also removes the option to disable the archiving of all chat communications. The executive revealed that HTC sold about five million One units since launch, a performance that is deemed encouraging. "Sony gave the PS4 50% more raw shader performance, plain and simple (768 SPs @ 800MHz vs. 1152 SPs & 800MHz). Unlike last generation, you don't need to be some sort of Jedi to extract the PS4's potential here. The Xbox One and PS4 architectures are quite similar, Sony just has more hardware under the hood.
