SuSE, openSUSE The first major effect of Attachmate buying Novell (and thus, SUSE) has come into, uh, effect. Novell, of course, is the birth place of Mono, the open source implementation of Microsoft's .NET framework. Reports indicate Mono developers have been fired as part of the streamlining process, but according to Attachmate's CEO, they weren't fired because of Mono.

I've tried Moonlight, and never got it to work properly with anything (except maybe some tests designed specifically for it). It's a waste of time.

Of course, whenever stating something based on the past, the future comes around swiftly and ruins everything. I visited a page with a Silverlight video today, and Moonlight asked to download some codecs from Microsoft, which it then did and asked me to reload the page. Video played back smoothly. Then tested a different page, and it worked fine there as well. In fullscreen, it's much, much smoother than Flash on my computer (which is to say that Flash is still utter shit for video on Linux).
