SuSE, openSUSE The first major effect of Attachmate buying Novell (and thus, SUSE) has come into, uh, effect. Novell, of course, is the birth place of Mono, the open source implementation of Microsoft's .NET framework. Reports indicate Mono developers have been fired as part of the streamlining process, but according to Attachmate's CEO, they weren't fired because of Mono.

Are you kidding? (though your message can be extremely innocent [if you are a mexican guy], it can also be extremely xenophobic).

I think that if Miguel de Icaza would be fired, he would be hired the next day or he would have a lot of job offers in his mailbox.

Miguel can return to Mexico, but he can stay in the US, move to Europe or Asia or wherever he wants to be.

The article says that it's possible that Miguel might get picked up by Microsoft. Admittedly, the author has no way of knowing. But it's not too far of a reach to say that Miguel has always dreamed of working for Microsoft. We should be happy for him should his dream come true... even if it did take a lot of undercover work on his part, infiltrating the OSS community, and all that.
