A brazilian priest filled a patent requeriment in Italy a few years before Marconi's demonstration, both used the waves to transmit the little blinking lights.
By the way, brazilians invented the really most apreciated things...
*Samba(the music, not the smb share)
*Daily baths
*Cachaça(if you never tried it, run to a liquor store!)
*Airplanes (before thinking about Wright Brothers, remember that they used horses (!) once a time and never made a public demonstration, while Santos Dumont flew around Paris)
*Barbecues
And the list goes on and on and on
