On the desktop, linux consumes 100 times less energy than windows and 5 times less than MacOS.
Gentoo consumes 1000 times less energy than Ubuntu.

I'd just LOVE to hear the maths behind that claim. I mean, if a Windows PC consumes e.g. 300W while powered on, it would only consume 3W when running generic Linux, and 0,003W when running Gentoo...

Or in other words: you have no idea what you're saying.

Well, the math is really simple.
A linux desktop consumes roughly the same amount of energy as a windows desktop. There are 100 times more windows desktops than linux desktops. Therefore windows consumes 100 times more power than linux on the desktop.
The same math applies when comparing gentoo to ubuntu.
I thought you would get it.
