What noone has mentioned as far as I could see skimming the comments, is the great potential for hacking, and the immense dangers that would ensue. With glasses for augmented reality (blinding someone, for example) and even more with brain implants (the article already mentioned hallucinations, what if an evil hacker sends you those "hallicinations")? And, to take it into the realm of "trust noone": what if the government would abuse your implants? I shudder to think of the possibilities the less benign governments would have (did I say less benign? German governement spyware anyone?).
