Google "The announcement that Nexus One users won't be getting upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich led some to justifiably question Google's support of their devices. I look at it a little differently: Nexus One owners are lucky. I've been researching the history of OS updates on Android phones and Nexus One users have fared much, much better than most Android buyers." I'm happy the modding community takes care of orphaned devices, but a solution it is not. I'm hoping the crop of Android phones released this past year - which were not included in this analysis - fair better. If there's one thing Google should steal from Apple, it's their iOS update support.

Windows users are probably less motivated than a hyped up Apple crowd. I still encounter XP SP1 users.

Also it wasn't just iOS 5, but also OS X 10.7.2, iCloud, iPhoto, iWorks for iOS and a number of other updates.

I am still not buying it. Even less now that you start with the "windows users" stereotypes.

And for the record, with default win7 configuration, updates are downloaded automatically (although not always installed automatically).

It's more a case of stereotyping Apple users, but with good reason. iOS and iCloud were very much on the wanted list of Apple users, so once it became available they went for it.

Windows users are less hyped up about updates and while most updates are downloaded automaticaly they do not so all at the same time. I can't remember what wonderful stuff XP service pack 1, 2 and 3 brought.

On Twitter I noticed a lot of people tweeting about iOS 5's availabilty. So once it became available people started downloading it, but also OS X 10.7.2 and a number of other updated stuff.
