From what little I read of Thom's it's more apparent that rabid anti-Thom fanatics conveniently ignores all the things he writes more than Thom ignores facts.
As for Google's lobbying... what exactly are they lobbying for?
I like how Apple nuts like to pick the first big number they come across to explain anything, instead of dissecting what those figures mean. Forget about reality distortion, Apple nuts are actually into voodoo and numerology*.
* Here's a hint: just because you use numbers does not mean you are using those numbers correctly.

There's a very well defined cut-off point for "batshit crazy".
If someone believes either one or more of:
1) 9/11 truthers
2) Moon landing "hoax"
3) 2012
Who knows, maybe Stallman does believe one of those. But I don't think that's out there at the moment.
Anything less than any of those three is not "batshit crazy", and they're mildly batshit crazy. True batshit crazy are the Phelps from the Westboro church. In between are the Jerry Falwells and Pat Robertsons and Glenn Becks and Ann Coulters of this world.

Google is no better no matter how much they preach "don't be evil". Although Thom conveniently ignores this, Motorola (cough Google) is attacking everyone right and left using FRAND patents. They're all looking after their own good and Google is probably the worse one of all.

As for Motorola... you neglected to mention that Microsoft and Apple started this sleazy war over software-patents by suing world + dog over trivial and dubious software patents that should have never been filed and should have never been granted such as swiping on a frigging screen and rendering text before images for god's sake. Any use of FRAND patents to COUNTERSUE these sleaze-balls is FAIR GAME. Microsoft, Apple and Oracle are using sleazy software-patents to create an atmosphere where you CANNOT sit down at your computer and write system code without worrying about them coming to claim ownership of your frigging code that they did not write through the use of broad and obvious software-patents. And you come here spewing these Apple PR talking points. Self destructive much? You may not want or care to learn how write system code but it doesn't mean your hero Apple should be the only one allowed to write any system code. Crazy? That's not crazy. That's very sane, but very detailed and specific requirement list.
Crazy is when JLo slaps the maid in Boscolo(Rome) for the wrong kind of flowers... even though she did not request specific flowers.
RMS just seems to be very experienced with that and does not want to waste anyone's time or resources if the inviting party does not agree to something.

Written by someone who actually contributes code to the Windows NT kernel, the comment on Hacker News, later deleted but reposted with permission on Marc Bevand's blog, paints a very dreary picture of the state of Windows development. The root issue? Think of how Linux is developed, and you'll know the answer.

This is one of those news items that's fun to write, fun to read, fun to comment on, and where no one will be able to say anything unkind. It's all just one big ball of awesome fluffiness. TuneTracker, the BeOS radio automation software, has just released something very special: TuneTracker System 5, the first version designed entirely and specifically for Haiku. In fact, it actually includes Haiku in the software package. Better yet, TuneTracker also unveiled several system-in-a-box products - which have Haiku and TuneTracker pre-installed.

Oh multitasking. That staple of computing that got thrown out the window with many modern smartphones. We got some rudimentary thing in its place - but even as multitasking on phone and tablets improves, its user-visible side remains cumbersome. Windows 8 has a neat implementation, and now it's time Android follows in it footsteps.

Whether that excites you or not remains to be seen, but the Galaxy S4, which will most likely become the best selling Android smartphone of the year by a huge margin, has been reviewed by all the major sites, and there's lots of interesting conclusions in there - although I think most of you will get the gist.

Nokia has posted its quarterly results for the first quarter of 2013, and just like the quarters that came before, there's not a whole lot of good news in there. The rise in Lumia sales still can't even dream of making up for the sales drop in Symbian phones, and when broken down in versions, the sales figures for Windows Phone 8 Lumias in particular are very disappointing. In North America, Nokia is getting slaughtered.

The day has finally come: Google has started shipping Google Glass to the lucky few early adopters. Now that it's shipping, Google has also unveiled a lot more about the API and the specifications of the device itself. While the company had already given out substantial details at earlier occasions, there are still a few surprises here.
