GNU, GPL, Open Source John Sullivan, executive director of the Free Software Foundation: "Were it grounded in reality, Oracle's claim that copyright law gives them proprietary control over any software that uses a particular functional API would be terrible for free software and programmers everywhere. It is an unethical and greedy interpretation created with the express purpose of subjugating as many computer users as possible, and is particularly bad in this context because it comes at a time when the sun has barely set on the free software community's celebration of Java as a language newly suitable for use in the free world. Fortunately, the claim is not yet reality, and we hope Judge Alsup will keep it that way." Couldn't agree more.

Exactly how does that make him batshit crazy. By no means do I agree with the man or the GPL (and that list is certainly a bit overwhelming) but batshit crazy? No, he's not.
I'm sure it's nice for organizers to know all his quirks and oddities *before* booking him.
Chanting "Developers Developers Developers", now there's something akin to batshit crazy.

You're right he just has a few quirks and oddities just like any other person, a regular Joe just like you or any one else:

Wow. You just showed the lengths rabid people like you go to preserve an irrational hatred of someone and end up with an increasingly widening definition of what constitutes "batshit crazy".

Basically, if you're an uber-nerd with absolutely no social skills, then that's enough to be labelled as batshit crazy. Were you a nerd at school bowkota? Did you get bullied for it? If so, then you are arguing that you deserved it. Batshit crazy indeed.

I've worked helping people with actual mental conditions in the past.

This guy picks up things off of his feet and puts then in his mouth. He believes all the things in that link and everything else on his blog:
https://secure.mysociety.org/admin/lists/pipermail/developers-public...

He Chooses to be that way and he chooses to believe those things.
THAT is what makes him batshit crazy and if you find that this is not irregular than good for you.
Maybe next time he's in town you should accommodate him for a couple of days, see how you feel after.

There's an enormous difference between having a disgusting bad habit and being batshit crazy.
Heck, as far as I can tell this has happened only once. Raise your hand if you've never done something stupid and disgusting in public by mistake. Congratulations, you are all batshit crazy.

Some consider that picking your nose, chewing your nails and scratching your genitalia to alleviate an itch in public is disguising. In some countries belching is acceptable and in others it's considered very rude.

More: I'm fairly certain some of yours or mine regular habits could be found disgusting by quite a few people. NVM possibly random quirks (but it's telling how bowkota bases on something like this his efforts to disparage Dr Stallman)

Plus, from how it looks, it might as well be a simple case of (series of) automatisms that went haywire.

He was clearly focused, immersed in the conversation going on ...OK, so he happened to pick something from his feet at the time. OK, so he has eaten a small object he's holding in a particular way in his hand. What we must realize: it's entirely possible those two actions were two separate background tasks, not really conscious processes, that got combined in an unfortunate way.

We all do this. Simplest example is when we get to some room and don't know why we went there in the first place.
Heck, a buddy of mine once wanted to throw out garbage and get some food in a shop nearby. It ended with him throwing the purchase into garbage container, and putting garbage on the kitchen table...

And while it's not 100% reliable, it's also good that we often operate on such level - otherwise our minds would get swamped with what are, in reality, just constant background tasks that we pay little attention to.

BTW, not far every-other-part-of-the-body tends to be more hygienic than hands, and biting peels of skin from them (around nails and such) seems socially acceptable.

Even though it's kind-of ew... You will not believe how many oddities each person has. The most well discussed and analysed if the fast that every single person on this planet has a sexual fetish.
A "regular Joe" is much more irregular than you might imagine.
