Ah, yes. The iMac (I just looked it up) was released in 1998; the Cube not until 2000. In 1998, as memory serves, people still used floppy drives for everyday storage. I wonder how Apple expected people with those iMacs to save/store/duplicate their data? They didn't have CD-RW drives (or did they?). USB flash drives may have been around but the iMac only had two USB slots, inaccessible on the rear, one for the keyboard and one for the mouse.
Have you ever attempted to repair an all-in-one iMac? What a load of proprietary, non-standard, hard to access junk. Grrrrr...

The first Apple I can remember seeing without a floppy was the "Cube." The problem, at the time floppy discs were still very much in use, especially among small alternative operating systems.
